Flights of Fancy - Eole

Clement Ader's Eole was the first piloted aeroplane to take off under its own power, for a brief uncontrolled hop in 1890.

The Eole had a light but powerful 20HP steam engine and bat like wings. Unfortunately it had little flight control and no forward vision for the pilot.
